and Miscellaneous Misplaced Stones
Cambridge (Galt), N.Dumfries Township, Waterloo County
When the old Strang Burying ground on the top of Main Street hill in Galt
was discontinued at the turn of the century, the remains were moved to Mount
View Cemetery with some of the stones. A park was made on the site.
Later when the foundations for an apartment building were being dug there,
many abandoned stones were uncovered and left to be carted away. They
slowly disappeared and in 1985 a request was placed in the Cambridge Reporter
asking for information about these missing stones. Some had been made
into garden steps, a sidewalk etc. but few were found. The following
are the ones located:
15 Arthur White Avenue
Two stones and pieces of stones made into a retaining wall:

Cynthia W. Sampson/died/Sept.12,1851/aged/4 years/
12 McKenzie Street
[this stone had been found in an attic above a Hardware store on Main
Street, having at one time been used as a soldering table]
