Saint Mark's Lutheran Cemetery CC#4538
1123
Henry St., Wellesley Village,
Wellesley Township, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada
Saint Mark's cemetery in Wellesley village has always
been associated with the Evangelical Lutheran church of the same name. In the
1870's a second Lutheran church was begun in Wellesley village and it curiously
took the same name as the first, St. Paul's. Thus they were known as
"First St. Paul's" and "Second St. Paul's" . This continued
for eighty years until 1957, when Second St. Paul's changed its name to St.
Mark's. It is associated with the Canada Synod.
The church was first built in 1876, after John Zoeger provided land for the
building. There was $105.00 for the church plus $25.00 for the cemetery
grounds. The steeple was added in 1880. The original church was replaced
by a red brick building in 1927.
