Saint Clement's Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Clements CC#4534
Across from 2786 Main St., St. Clements Village,
East Concession 8 Lot 2, Wellesley Township, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada
This cemetery is located in the village of St. Clements in Wellesley Township,
East Concession I Lot 2. St. Clements village grew up around the church of that
name; from the earliest period this was a Roman Catholic settlement. From 1834,
the priest came from St. Agatha to minister to the parishioners here, and from
1852, when Bishop Michael Power of Toronto named the church after the fourth
pope, there was a resident priest. The first log church was built in 1840 and
has been succeeded by a splendid edifice which has been improved many times
over the years.
The first cemetery was around the church, but in 1885 it was relocated on St.
Clement Street, with the old burials being moved to the new location.
When the space was filling up, the cemetery was expanded in 1973 and now
is located on the Main Street between Peter and Green. It is owned by the
Diocese of Hamilton. Feb 1992
