Parkview
Cemetery
345 University Ave E., Waterloo,
Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada
Parkview Cemetery is owned and operated by the City of Waterloo.
The L.S. Bechtel farm consisting of 175 acres was bought by the city in
1958. Seventy-seven acres of this land are used as the cemetery and the
remainder are divided between park land and sanitary landfill use. The
entrance is off University Avenue East and the cemetery borders on Bridge
Street.
The cemetery which contains a Chapel and a Service building was officially
opened in 1966. In January of 1978, a Crematorium was opened in the Chapel.
Since this was the first crematorium in the area it has been very much in
demand.
For recording purposes, the sections have been divided, as they are visually,
into four subsections each, eg Section A consists of AA,AB,AC,and AD. The
section designated Miscellaneous includes the Cremation Garden (CG),Cremation A
(CRA),Cremation B (CRB), and Children/Infant (CHA). A large area of
the cemetery (Section D) was not yet in use at the time of recording in 1993.
In 2001 the Columbarium Dome and the Garden of Memory Memorial for the
Scattering Garden were installed, further expanding our cremation services.
The cremation facilities offered at Parkview Cemetery are not intended to
advocate cremation in the place of traditional interment. Decisions of
this nature are very personal and family oriented, and Parkview Cemetery wishes
to provide an atmosphere conducive to both types of services.
