Old Christner Cemetery CC#4548

Beside 1408 Christner Road, Wilmot Township, Waterloo Region, Ontario , Canada

Lot 23 North Snyder’s Road Concession.

    This small, long unused cemetery lies one road north of New Hamburg in Wilmot Township near the border with Perth County. It was used by members of the Christner, Kuntze and Hostetler families who lived in the area and was long maintained by members of the Christner family who lived across the road in a fine stone house.

    Some years ago most of the Hostetler graves were moved to another cemetery by members of the family, leaving only those stones listed in the transcript.  There are three small rows of stones on the east side of the cemetery, and a single large, more modern stone in bushes on the northern edge. Most of the west side is empty.

    In 1988 the cemetery was overgrown with day-lillies making a rush floor for visitors to walk on. In 2004 the situation has improved and the grounds are kept in good order by Wilmot Township.
