Description
The
Reformed Mennonite Cemetery is located on across from 1107 Christner Road,
on a narrow strip of land between the road and the Nith River. Joseph Jacobs sold a small parcel of land
(32 perches) to the Wellington District Council for the use of a common
school in 1847 (registered in 1848). No doubt, the space was also used as a
cemetery by that time. In 1860 Jacobs conveyed another to rods to the
Trustees of the Mennonist Society for a church.
Both
the school and the church were later removed to the south side of the road
on to tge Hostetler property, and have become known as Hostetler's. The
cemetery is now also know by that name as well. The church has been removed, but the cemetery is
still used by the Reformed Mennonites and their families.
