Linwood Union Cemetery CC#4531

Concession X, Lot 10 Western Section, Regional Road 5,
Wellesley Township, Region of Waterloo, Ontario

The Village of Linwood in Wellesley Township is served by two large cemeteries.  In addition, there are two smaller cemeteries:  to the west is the private Schmetzer family plot on their farm, and to the east, the Linwood Mennonite Church has a new burying-ground beside their meeting house.  Both of these cemeteries have been read and published separately.  Roman Catholics are more likely to be found in the churchyard at Macton.

Linwood Union lies in the village at West Concession X, Lot 10.  It is just south of the main crossroads.  The cemetery was founded as a community burying-ground, without a religious affiliation.  Incomplete records do exist, a copy of the records up to 1953 is at the Kitchener Public Library. This cemetery, like many had been neglected. Mr. Elmer Ogram  about 1950, began work on improving it.  With a rod he prodded the ground, found buried tombstones, took measurements, and charted all stone locations. He also contacted local residents, collected names and addresses of relatives and friend to contact, and collected donations to create a perpetual care fund. Taken from a minute book.
