Floradale Mennonite Cemetery CC#4589
German Company Tract Lot 101 Woolwich Township
The Floradale Mennonite congregation was founded at
the time of the division of 1889. For several years it met in makeshift
premises before building its first church in the country near Floradale.
The first building, a simple white structure, continued in use until 1936, when
the members demolished it themselves and chose to build a new structure closer
to the village. A handsome brick building with central heating and a gallery
was built in 1936 on land previously owned by Jesse B. Snyder.
In the these early years, burials from the congregation took place at North
Woolwich or Elmira. in 1947 a further plot of land was acquired east of the
meeting house for use as a burying ground. In 1958 a three storey brick
addition enlarged the church..
The cemetery is a small one yet, as it has been in use such a short time, but
there is plenty of room for further use. (May 1993)
